5 Questions to Ask Before You Sign a Solar Contract
Solar can be one of the smartest investments you make as a homeowner — but only if you go in informed. A lot of the horror stories you've heard come down to one thing: homeowners not asking the right questions before they signed.
Here are five questions every solar company should be able to answer clearly. If they can't, that's your answer.
1. What happens if a panel needs repair or replacement?
Ask about warranty coverage — for the panels themselves, the inverter, and the labor. A reputable company will have clear answers, not vague reassurances.
2. Who owns the system — me or the financing company?
This matters for resale, for taxes, and for who's responsible for what. Make sure you understand whether you're buying, financing, or leasing, and what that means long-term.
3. How will this affect my home's resale value?
Solar can increase home value, but only when it's installed and documented properly. Ask how the company handles this on paper for future buyers.
4. What's your timeline, realistically?
Permitting, installation, utility approval — it all takes time. Be wary of anyone promising unrealistically fast turnarounds.
5. Will I be able to reach you after installation?
This is the big one. Ask who your point of contact is once the panels are up, and what their response time looks like if something goes wrong.
At Advisor Solar, we welcome these questions — because homeowners who ask them are the ones who end up happiest with their decision. If you're considering solar in New Jersey or Central Florida, let's start with a conversation, not a contract.
